History

In 1979, Brigitte Van Note and Carol Rhodes, who had both graduated from Montclair High School together — and then became roommates at the University of North Carolina — joined Joanne Egan and Associates as Real Estate agents. After learning the ropes and honing their skills, they decided it was time to start their own agency. In 1985, Rhodes, Van Note & Company, REALTORS® was officially established.

Brigitte said, “Our first office was at 1015 Broad Street in Bloomfield, NJ. But just about four years later we knew we needed a presence in our hometown. We bought a house at 635 Valley Road in Upper Montclair and occupied only the first floor for several years. Now we have expanded to fill all three floors, and our dark blue awnings are a well-known site in the Upper Montclair village.”

In 1985 there were no national Real Estate companies in Montclair or the surrounding areas. Today, Rhodes Van Note is still proudly independent even as larger and more impersonal franchises and nationally–based agencies increasingly dot the local landscape.

RVN now boasts more than 40 sales consultants, who are enthusiastic, professionally trained and knowledgeable about current market conditions and financing. They continue to add to the depth and breadth of the real estate services available to clients of Rhodes, Van Note & Company REALTORS – and expect to continue to help families market and/or find their special home in the decades ahead.
